What's In A Name?

A great many prayers are lifted to God daily and many prayers go unanswered. Why?

A clue to the answer of this question can be found in the Epistle of John.

1 John 5:14-15

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: [15] And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

I have been taught and thoroughly believe that the Bible is the revealed Word and Will of God. Let me repeat this, the Bible, is the revealed Word and Will of God. In it, God says what He means and means what He says.

In the Word of God are the answers to all questions pertaining to life and godliness.

2 Peter 1:3

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Gods Word says that if we are to desire anything of God we must do it through His Son.

1 Tim. 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

By no other name... Unless you accept Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Saviour you can not be saved.

Romans 10:9

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Jesus Christ has been given a more excellent name.

Hebrews 1:4

Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Jesus Christ acquired this name because of His sold out committment to God.

Phillippians 2:8: ...he...became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

As a result of what Jesus Christ did for us in Phil 2:8 He earned this promise in Phil 2:9-11.

Philip. 2:9-11

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

God has placed quite a lot of emphasis on the name of Jesus Christ and so should we.

Ephes. 1:20-22

Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, [21] Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: [22] And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

Can you see the importance of the name? It is important because God made it important. God placed into motion a spiritual law here a law that we must all abide by if we are ever to live the more the more than abundant life. If we are ever to receive anything from God, If we are ever to get an answer to our prayers we must do it by, through and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Jesus Christ came so that we might live a more than abundant life!

John 14:13-14

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. [14] If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 16:23-24

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. [24] Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

John 20:31

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go to the Father in prayer and make your request made known unto Him in the name of His Son who is our Lord Jesus Christ and be prepared to have your prayers answered. Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephes. 5:20

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Col. 3:17

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Rev. 22:21

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
